March Update 2016

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

Recently there have been a few issues brought to our attention that we felt should have some clarification due to the main problem sourcing from a large number of people thinking that certain behaviour is seen as the norm and therefore do it without thinking about any consequences of such actions. These issues are easily rectifiable and we would assume for the majority of people in the community that this post should be enough to clear things up, however this will also act as a last warning before we start properly enforcing those who continue and ignore this post. This post will also address a couple of general points to keep people updated.

- TeamSpeak Etiquette

First off, as many of you are aware, we've had problems and been dealing with individuals joining channels on TeamSpeak and being extremely disruptive. The most obvious scenario that I am talking about here is of course mix rooms and joining these channels when people are trying to play games privately without interruption. If a group of people are in a mix room, do not join that room until you have asked and been given permission. Furthermore, and this goes for public rooms and game channels as well, you should not be joining channels and being obnoxiously loud on first joining; it is incredibly rude and disruptive to conversations taking place in those channels even if they are open for you to join them, we should not have to teach members of our community basic manners.

- Member Applications

This next part is in regards to the way individuals respond to member applications. We do not want to restrict who can post on applications because we feel as if players of all levels in our community could have significant feedback in regards to certain applications, however we cannot deny that most posts are either '+1 post count' or repeating exactly what someone has previously stated. If you are one of the individuals who spams '+1s' on every application then it tarnishes the significance of your input and when you eventually want to give actual feedback on an individual you will not be taken seriously. If you are repeating exactly what someone has previously stated, especially with criticisms, then you are not adding extra input to the application but rather turning constructive criticism into beratement. In both cases you should think before you post and we will be deleting posts which do not contribute appropriately to applications.

- Suggestions

As a clarification on suggestions; several of you have been asking for a separate board or a 'cleaner' method to post your suggestions while ignoring the fact that we do have an entire section (found here) dedicated to them. You should post your suggestions or questions in that section and that way they can be discussed more effectively than the mess that is the JB suggestion thread (which will be locked accordingly). We should also point out that if your suggestion has no substance, that being there are no plugins or actual means of implementing it, then we will not take it into consideration until it is actually a possibility.

- Moderator Applications

There has already been a post about the opening of moderator applications, however we figured I would just mention it again and let people know the expectations we have from our moderators each week now that applications are open. As a moderator you are expected to spend at least 7 hours on the server a week and help keep the community in check. You will also be expected to help out with events every now and then and to attend fortnightly admin meetings when available. Obviously this all takes up a lot of time which is why it becomes such a responsibility, however we recognise that it is voluntary and we are lenient when it comes to other priorities. All the same, good luck to all applicants and feel free to ask any moderator for more details (it isn't all doom and gloom, this is just to make the expectations clear).

- New Moderator

We would like to welcome our new moderator, Brianna, to the team. We are sure she will make a great, British moderator.

- Cheating on other games

Finally, just to be clear, Outbreak's stance on hacking outside of games that we currently have servers on is that any hacking or cheating when playing online games with the community will be treated in the same manner as someone who hacks on CS:GO. This is a final warning so that those who have previously thought that it does not matter will rectify this and know that it will result in them being banned from OB if they continue. We would also encourage any individuals who may have VAC'd alt accounts or hacked on platforms in the past to come forward as we are willing to forgive past offences, however we might not be so forgiving if we were to find out about these accounts or offences ourselves due to you attempting to hide it from us.

Hopefully this should clarify just a few of the issues that have been raised recently and make things clearer.

The OB Staff
